Systematics/Phytogeography / Taxonomie/ Section Blanco, Mario A. [1], Williams, N. H. [2], Whitten, W. M. [2], Neubig, Kurt M [1]. Phylogeny of Lockhartia (Orchidaceae) based on multiple DNA regions. The orchid genus Lockhartia has ca. 25 species distributed throughout the Neotropics. Its vegetative morphology is unusual because it lacks the pseudobulbs present in most other genera of subtribe Oncidiinae, and instead has elongate, pseudo-monopodial stems with laterally compressed leaves without an abscission layer. Although the genus is well defined morphologically, its species have been hard to circumscribe satisfactorily because of superficial similarity and lack of a global revision. As part of a monographic treatment of Lockhartia, its internal phylogenetic relationships were inferred using parsimony analyses of individual and combined sequence data for nrITS, ycf1, matK, trnL, and atpB-rbcL spacer. Paralogous copies of ITS occur in one clade. The systematic and biogeographic implications of the results are briefly discussed. Log in to add this item to your schedule
