The Encyclopedia of Life and Plant Species Pages.

Demand for biodiversity information by the scientific community, natural resource managers, the education sector and the public at large is growing. The alpha version of the Encyclopedia of Life is now online at www.eol.org with about 25 “exemplar” species pages that show the richness in content to which all the species pages will eventually grow; about 30,000 additional species pages that contain less information than the exemplar pages; about 1 million “minimal” species pages that contain just the scientific and common names for a species and often a distribution map; and several thousand “linking” pages representing higher levels of classification.
