NPS Biological Collections Forum - progress towards further cooperation.

On 2 April 2008, we attended the Biological Collections Forum in Washington, DC organized by the National Park Service. This meeting was attended by personnel from the Department of Interior, the National Park Service and representatives of five scientific societies (SPNHC, NSCA, ASIH, ASM, AIBS) and four natural history museums. The objective of the meeting was to present and discuss the issues and perceptions surrounding natural history specimens collected on NPS lands and options that may lead towards a cooperative, beneficial resolution of concerns over ownership of the collections. The meeting was very enlightening and all parties agreed that the “fruits” of this meeting should be shared beyond that room. This discussion session will be lead by two ASPT members who attended the meeting and possibly an NPS employee.
