Enzyme kinetics at pollination and Seed abortion in Boerhaavia Diffusa L.

Boerhaavia diffusa (Nyctagenaceae) is a common perennial, medicinal herb growing throughout India. In Ayurveda it is known as Punarnava. The flowers are hermaphrodite .The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic soils. It requires dry or moist soil and can tolerate drought.
The leaf of Boerhaavia has a sharp taste and is used as: An appetizer, Alexiteric for ophthalmia and eye wounds, and also useful in pain of joints while seeds as: Tonic, Expectorant, Carminative, purifying blood etc. The root is well known for its diuretic properties. A very good expectorant and used as a cure in jaundice. The active principle is a body of alkaloid nature, which is called as punarnavine. The higher active principle of alkaloid is found in dry conditions.
Pollination is one of the most critical stages in the life cycle of a flowering plant, involving a complex series of cell–cell interactions that constitute the pollen–pistil interaction As the enzymes control biochemical reactions, and their synthesis is under the control of specific gene(s),any change in the activity of an enzyme would reflect in the pattern of gene expression and corresponding metabolic events in the cell. In the present investigation the changes in the activities of Peroxidase, Polyphenol oxidase Esterase, Acid phosphatase during different time of pollination were studied and comes to known that all this enzymes shows difference in the activity.
On-random or selective abortion can influence the quality of fruits and seeds and such selective abortion could result from competition among the developing fruits or combination of both. This plant having a lots of seed abortion so the abortion in Boerhaavia diffusa is due to three reasons which has been noted as Nutritional deficiency, Insect attack, Temperature. 60% of seed abortion in plant is reduced by supplying Hoogland nutrition into four concentrations.
